LAN Cargo links Basel with South America

LAN CARGO is to start a weekly Boeing 777F cargo flight from EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg on 27 October 2014 just after the winter timetable comes into effect. LAN CARGO is the cargo division of the LATAM Airlines Group, the leading airline in South America.

The new LAN CARGO flight (UC 1503) will leave Amsterdam every Monday at 16.00 hours, landing at EuroAirport at 17.00 hours. At 19.00 hours the Boeing 777F will then fly on from EuroAirport to Sao Paolo (Guarulhos), Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile. (All times are local times.)

The move by LAN CARGO to come to EuroAirport further underlines the attraction of the airport location, which provides direct access to three countries – France, Switzerland and Germany – and is situated near to Basel, home to some of the world’s major pharmaceutical companies.

The decision by LAN CARGO comes shortly before the opening of the new Cargo Terminal located in the south-west zone 4 of the airport, which is to go into service beginning of 2015. The new 21,000 m² EuroAirport Cargo Terminal represents an investment of 40 million euros. Its state-of-the-art, temperature-controlled infrastructure is perfectly in line with the cool-chain requirements of local industry and logistics companies and offers extremely efficient freight processing.

The logistics sector in the region around EuroAirport is an important economic driver that provides thousands of jobs and creates a significant competitive advantage.
