From 1 September, Dresden Airport’s timetable will feature three new non-stop flights. Lufthansa subsidiary Germanwings will fly between Dresden and its official twin city Hamburg. Etihad Regional, operated by Darwin Airline, will be connecting Dresden with Amsterdam and Zurich.

Markus Kopp, CEO of Mitteldeutscher Flughafen AG: “Three maiden flights on one day – this represents a milestone in the recent history of Dresden Airport. The new routes to Amsterdam, Hamburg and Zurich are major new acquisitions for our company which will benefit the economy and tourism in the Dresden region.”

Alongside Cologne Bonn, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf and Corfu, Hamburg is the fifth destination to be offered from Dresden by Germanwings. The Hamburg route is one of the oldest national flight routes from Dresden. With a few short interruptions, it ran from late 1989 to early 2013. The first flight took place almost 25 years ago, on 1 December 1989, with Interflug.

“We are delighted that Etihad Regional has now integrated Dresden International Airport into its route network, and that it plans to add yet another non-stop route from Dresden in November, this time to Vienna,” Markus Kopp reveals. “The airline already runs successful non-stop routes to Amsterdam, Geneva, Paris and Zurich from our sister airport Leipzig/Halle.

From November 3rd Etihad Regional will be flying to Vienna twice a day. As of 26 October 2014, it will also be doubling the number of flights to Zurich to two a day.
