Rolls-Royce delivers 1,500th Trent 700 engine

Rolls-Royce celebrated the delivery of its 1,500th Trent 700 engine, with customer AirAsia X.

The engine first entered service in 1995 as the first member of the Trent engine family – today it has accumulated more than 30 million flying hours and is in service with 66 operators. More than 1,650 Trent 700s are now in service or on firm order, making it the largest Trent engine fleet in service.

It is the clear engine of choice on the Airbus A330ceo aircraft that it powers, winning 67 per cent of new orders over the last three years and accounting for a similar percentage of future A330ceo deliveries.

Experience from the Trent 700 has also gone into the new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engine that powers the Airbus A330neo aircraft. AirAsia X selected 50 of the aircraft earlier this year.

Azran Osman-Rani, AirAsia X, Chief Executive Officer, and Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce, President – Civil Large Engines, joined celebrations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) to formally mark the engine’s delivery to the airline.

Mr Osman-Rani said: „We welcome Rolls-Royce today to celebrate a milestone for an engine that has delivered exceptional performance on the A330ceo, and it is great that we can celebrate that the 1,500th engine is entering service with us.“

Mr Schulz said: „The Trent 700 engine is the clear market choice for A330ceo operators and we have consistently improved on the powerplant’s efficiency to ensure it maintains that position.“

AirAsia X operates 17 Airbus A330ceos powered by Trent 700 engines. The airline’s first A330ceo entered into service in 2008.
