Qatar Airways and Vueling have signed an interline agreement that will enable Qatar’s national carrier to increase the number of passengers to Europe, as well as strengthen Vueling’s Barcelona hub. Qatar Airways and Vueling are members of Oneworld alliance.
The partnership between the two airlines will also improve trans-European traffic by providing more long-haul connections, both airlines told. El Prat airport is Vueling’s main hub where the Spanish company has a 38% market share, and from which the Spanish airline offers direct flights to 121 destinations and up to 11,000 connections across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
“This agreement with Vueling is the first step in offering our clients seamless access in and out of Europe via El Prat-Barcelona”, said Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, Akbar Al Baker. “We look forward to working very closely with Vueling to ensure that our passengers continue to receive an enhanced travel experience with both carriers.”
Álex Cruz, President of Vueling, also showed his satisfaction. “Over the last five years Vueling has been the engine of growth at El Prat Airport. This new agreement will boost long-haul traffic, placing Barcelona’s airport in the top tier in Europe. The quality of Vueling’s product and service enables the airline to meet the high expectations demanded by Qatar Airways’ passengers,” he added.
Qatar Airways which has been operating in Spain since 2005, offers 10 flights per week to Barcelona, and seven flights per week to Madrid. Commencing November 16, 2014, the airline will increase the number of flights to Madrid to 10 times weekly.
