Gatwick Airport welcomed its first ever Pegasus Airlines flight from Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen to mark the launch of an exciting new route to and from one of the world’s most iconic and historic cities. Pegasus is Turkey’s leading low cost airline and will operate from Gatwick to Istanbul six days a week. Connecting on to further destination across Turkey, including top summer destinations, the route will provide passengers with more flexibility and choice when planning their travels.

Matt Wood, Head of Airline Relations at London Gatwick, said: “We are delighted to welcome Pegasus to Gatwick as it starts its first ever scheduled flights from the airport. This is a prime example of an airline choosing Gatwick to grow its business as we continue to offer competition on critical routes to emerging markets such as Istanbul in Turkey.”

Guliz Ozturk, Pegasus Airlines’ Chief Commercial Officer, commented: „We are delighted to be launching our London Gatwick Istanbul route. The UK is a major destination for us, having flown 381,000 guests to and from the UK during 2014 which translates to a year-on-year increase of 25%. We are confident that our new Gatwick flights will be warmly welcomed by our guests who will enjoy affordable travel to Istanbul and beyond.”
