Austrian Airlines welcomes the fourth additional Dash 8-Q400 aircraft to its fleet. The turboprop of the Canadian producer Bombardier with the registration OE-LGR has landed safely at Innsbruck-Kranebitten Airport, the carrier told.

Accordingly, with the addition of OE-LGR, the fleet of the Austrian Airlines Group will be expanded to 80 aircraft, including 18 Dash 8-Q400 turboprop aircraft. The fleet expansion is related to a contract concluded with the sister company SWISS. Austrian Airlines operates various flights on behalf of SWISS, including flight service from Zurich to Nuremberg, Lyon and Lugano or Geneva to Lugano. The Dash maintenance team of Tyrolean Technik will carry out various refurbishment and refitting tasks on the aircraft and bring it up to Austrian Airlines’ technical standards.

The Dash 8-Q400 has room for 76 passengers and operates on routes with a range of up to 1,600 kilometers. Due to its design, the Q-Series is considered to be particularly reliable and efficient. The “Q” in the name stands for “quiet”. Compared to passenger jets with similar seating capacity, the Dash 8-400 aircraft requires about 40% less jet fuel, and thus also reduces CO₂ emissions. This type of aircraft also reaches airports where larger airlines are not able or allowed to land. For example, this is the case for Lugano in Switzerland.
