No other in-flight snack causes such a stir as the iconic currywurst from airberlin. The traditional dish from the German capital is now an integral feature of airberlin`s in-flight catering and is set to delight visitors to the international travel show (ITB).

„As usual in the spring, the world is coming to Berlin. Tourism professionals from every continent use the ITB to network. It`s the perfect opportunity for us to position airberlin as the German airline with the most attentive service,“ said Götz Ahmelmann, Chief Commercial Officer at airberlin. „Our currywurst is as popular as ever. Last year, we sold over 150,000 portions of the bestseller on board – and this trend is increasing.“

And for passengers who have yet to try currywurst and those who prefer it to everything else, airberlin has a surprise in store. Whilst the ITB is being held in the German capital, airberlin will treat all passengers taking a domestic airberlin flight to a complimentary currywurst from Sylt-based Sansibar. From 10 am every day from 3 to 6 March 2015, currywurst will be served on board. Over these four days, around 20,000 portions will be handed out from the trolley – the aircraft galley`s mobile bar.

„Currywurst represents a piece of Berlin, which is why it`s so popular on airberlin flights. It`s the most frequently ordered dish on the menu,“ according to Götz Ahmelmann. The speciality from Sylt-based Sansibar is made of veal and pork, served in a spicy curry sauce with chunky vegetables, and is unique in global in-flight catering.
