Air Greenland has joined the European Regions Airline Association (ERA), bringing the number of airlines in membership to 53. The flag carrier of Greenland is the third airline to join ERA this year, illustrating the reach of the association’s membership and highlighting the trust that Europe’s regional carriers have in the association’s influence with Europe’s regulatory bodies and the value that they place in its lobbying and communication campaigns.

The flag carrier of Greenland was founded in 1960 and offers flights to, from and within Greenland. With a fleet of 35 aircraft, ranging from an Airbus 330-200 to AS 350 helicopters and Dash-8 planes, Air Greenland flies domestic routes in Greenland and operates transatlantic flights to Iceland, Denmark and Canada.

CEO of Air Greenland, Michael Højgaard, says: “Air Greenland is delighted to join ERA. Operating in Arctic airspace presents a unique set of challenges and membership of ERA will ensure that these challenges are represented before Europe’s regulatory bodies. Air Greenland has a long and proud history of making Greenland accessible and serving our communities, and we look forward to the opportunities that membership of ERA will bring as we continue to develop our network and services.”

Director General of ERA, Simon McNamara, adds: “Air Greenland is a valuable new member of ERA, adding further substance to our expanding airline membership and increasing our leverage with Europe’s regulatory bodies. Air Greenland’s social responsibility policy should be commended – it flies in difficult conditions, providing a vital lifeline to its domestic community and playing a key role in opening up economic and tourist development in Greenland. ERA is looking forward to representing Air Greenland’s interests and concerns before Europe’s new Commission and Parliament.”
